About Me

I am an applied microeconomist with a passion for quantitative analyses. I have a background in economics and business administration, and I have a strong interest in tax policy. I am currently working as a postdoctoral researcher at ZEW - Leibniz Centre for European Economics Research in Mannheim, Germany.

I am currently working on projects that investigate causal links in cross-border effects of national tax policies.

Co-authored with Tobias Böhm, Antonia Hohmann and Nadine Riedel Under revision at Journal of International Economics In this paper, we use administrative customs and tax return data from South Africa to demonstrate that corporate taxes influence firms’ export performance and their competitiveness in international product markets.

Taxing Top Incomes in the Emerging World - Fiscal and Economic Impact under the Microscope
Co-authored with Christopher Axelson, Antonia Hohmann, Jukka Pirttilä and Nadine Riedel Revise and resubmit at American Economic Journal - Economic Policy In this paper, we study taxpayer responses to an increase in the top marginal tax rate in South Africa, drawing on exceptionally rich tax administrative data and a transparent empirical identification design. We establish that treated taxpayers strongly reduce their reported taxable income in response to the tax reform.
